In the reading Bogost brings up the game Americas Army's. He talks about how the game is being used as a recruitment tool by the US army. They have made it so the players in the game honor the rules of engagement(ROE) and the chain of command as a enlisted soldier would have to in the army. if they don't follow these two rules then they will be disciplined in the game as they would in real life. If you do break these rules there are penalties as harsh as you can lose you character and have to make a new account. Losing all your medals and achievements that you had and having to have to start out from scratch. For example in the game you have to go through some basic training before you can play and if you lose your account you have to complete this training again. During this time if you turn and shoot you drill Sargent then you get punished once again and have to go directly to the brig. This is a way in which the military can introduce people into their way of life and their system in which they operate without having to waste time and effort in explaining it all in the beginning. The new recruit who has played Americas Army's will have a background information if they decide to enter the service one day. this information will help them accumulate them into their new surroundings and how they should behave in the surroundings. This way the game itself is a tool in which the army can use to introduce people into the life style of a soldier before they must live by their way of life.
However Bogost also goes on to talk about a negative side to the game. Americas Army's can also push the idea that the US should interfere with the rest of the worlds politics. This is due to the fact that when you are playing the game you can never be the enemy. So therefore you are always killing enemy soldiers of the US all over the world. This then puts the idea that it is okay and even our right to interfere with the rest of the worlds politics and make them one. the player will then think this way after playing the game in his subconscious and it will then influence his political views about us invading or sending peace keepers everywhere in the world.
