Not Going Assignment

Here's my game idea for the not going assignment meant to help deal with a child's fear of rejection from a group.

Age Group: Adolescent 13 to 18 years
Hospital Stress: Loss of peer acceptance and/or fear of rejection
Genre: Multiplayer Puzzle
Platform: DS
Player Goal: Working together with three other players to solve a puzzle

Gameplay:

- Makes use of the DS’ wifi so that up to four players can play a level at one time. Uses the touch screen of the DS as input for a chat system.
Prior to starting the level, each player is given a unique clue that is integral to solving the puzzle. Players must talk to one another and share their clues in order to succeed.
- In game, from the player’s perspective, their avatar will always appear different from the other three players. For example, if the player’s avatar is a turtle, the other three players will look like rabbits. At the same time, another player will see his own avatar as a turtle, while the other players are rabbits. This will force players to overcome the fear of rejection due to being different because input from all members is needed in order to solve the puzzle.
- After starting the level, the puzzle is shown to the players. Immediately after, the players are given a set amount of time to talk and formulate a plan on how to solve it. The time limit will force players to start talking to one another immediately.
- After the time runs out, the players are given an unlimited amount of time in which to carry out their plan. There are multiple ways for each puzzle to be solved. If the plan does not work, the players are given the option to retry the level or try a different one.
