If the game is only text based like MUD's you can change everything about yourself. You can be taller, more physically fit, even change your gender if you so wish too. It is a way to personify yourself in any way you want. This then lets you meet people and have them see you as you want to be seen, which can be different from the way you actually are.

In MUD's people can have more confidence in themselves because you are what you want to be not just a single living in a rundown apartment complex. You can also meet someone that you may never meet up with in real life. You might come to know each others identities in the game and become friends in the virtual world. If they are of opposite sex they might even become "MUD lovers". who are people that have sexual encounters in the privacy of their own virtual "room". some take this to the next level and actually meet in real life.However they don't have too if they don't with to. This is possible because MUDing is just a way in which people can escape from there ordinary lives.

You can be a king or a queen where in your job you are just a secretary being told what to do and when to do it. However in the games you can be and do what you want to. The players boss isn't there to tell them what to do. So it gives them a release from all the pressures of their jobs and lives. It helps them forget about it all and jsut be who they want to be.
