Your culture is a violent one.
Your world is a violent one.
Human beings pine to see the latest victim strung up across the news.
Devastating events are portrayed by a shrinking number of conglomerates with something to sell.[1]
This does not pertain solely to the news, movies or video games. Violence is not culture bound. It is everywhere. A single creation can be sold to societies throughout the globe.

As you watch violent Television and movies, as you play violent video games, you will internalize aggression.
As you read Lovecraft and Nietzsche, you will internalize fear and the anti-christ.
But, dear hacker, this is not about becoming what you eat. This is about choice.
If you are afraid of creatures from the dark beyond, Lovecraft will frighten you.
If you find yourself on a campaign against morality, Nietzsche will guide you.
If you are out for revenge or a bloody ladder climb, Halo will train you.

Your nation has 305 million citizens.[2]
170 million of them are active gamers.[3]
17 thousand of them have commited murder.[4]
Assuming all crimes are commited by video game players, there is a 0.01% conversion rate.
Even if only three out of every one hundred gamers played violent video games, the conversion rate is still 0.03%.

These are facts, easy to dispute.
I have no personal tales to tell, I do not have a warm heart.
When you shoot me, I do not bleed.
When you kill me, I am not gone.
As are you, when you hold the controller in your hand.

Go, young solid snake.
Fight your way for fame and treasure.
If you ever find your aggressions bleeding through:

Just Smile.

This is a very creative and fascinating post. You make a number of very good points - particularly your references to the "numbers." Your post reminds me of something I might have seen in Deus Ex - excellent game. Well done.
